St. Vincent    4

Defending league champ St. Sebastian picked up where they left off by scoring 8 runs in the first inning and cruised to an easy victory over St. Vincent in the league opener at Brookside Park. Last year’s captain Lance Abramowitz, still stinging from this year’s draft night omission, was on hand to motivate old teammates Mike McKenna and Glenn Gang, who each racked up three hits for Sebastian, including a homer by McKenna. Tom Litterio, Gerry Riepe, Kevin Morris, Ricky Cintron, Roger Billotto, and “Tiny” Villegas also collected multiple hits for St. Sebastian. Rei Santiago, Daryl Palmieri, Liam Nobile, Ian Mehok, and Harold “Hop” Hopler all managed multiple hits for St. Vincent. With a core group of returning players including McKenna, Gang, John “Greeny” Greenblatt, along with a couple of key additions, captain Wells Pikaart’s Sebastian squad is an early favorite to play on Labor Day.

 

St. George    13

St. Wolfgang     4

St. Wolfgang watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 13-4 loss to St. George. The top of George’s lineup- Nam Joe, Sal Gano Jr., Vru Baboomian and Lewis Blau racked up four hits apiece to lead the offense. “Commish” Jim Killeen contributed with 3 hits and 2RBIs, while John DeLuca and John Griffith also collected multiple hits for the Georgies. Kevin Caggiano (2-2, RBI), Joe Ursino, Vinnny Fumero, Joe Oporto, and “Sweet” Eddie Fernandez all collected multiple hits for St Wolfgang.

 

St. Anthony    18

St. Joseph    4

Holding a small lead after four innings, St. Anthony put up seven runs in the fifth inning to seal the victory over St. Joseph. Offensive standouts for St. Ants included Todd Feinberg (5-5, 4RBIs), Erik “Nails” Hastrup (6RBIs), Carlos DaCosta, and Luis Fraguas, who each collected at least four hits. Captain Bobby Camisa, Mike Markowycz, Andrew Smyth, and Mike D’Amato contributed with multiple hit games for St. Anthony. St. Joseph scored all its runs in the third inning. St Joe's big inning was driven by doubles by Walt Patrylo and Chris “gold glove OF” Millar, a triple by Dave Eckert, and a single by Dave “Guido” Merkel. Chris Paterek chipped in with 2 hits for the Joeys.

 

St. Francis    14

St. Ignatius    5

St. Ignatius struggled to get their offense going on Friday, getting easily dispatched by St Francis, 14-5 Mike Kozlowski toed the rubber for St. Fran and limited Iggy batters to 12 hits over seven innings. The Frannies pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. Tom Ulichny (3-3), Tony Perconte, Shawn Yaney, Joe LoBrace, Gus Alvarez, and Bruce Logan all had multiple hits for St. Francis, while Chris “Rock” Sarna was 1-1 with 3 RBIs. Ara Movsesian, Pete Chemidlin, and Robby Stratton all managed multiple hits for Bob McGuiness’ St. Ignatius squad.
