St. Anthony 9
St. Sebastian 8
St. Sebastian drew first blood (literally), but unflappable Frank Chupko singled to lead off the seventh and was knocked in by Andrew “I want to ride my bicycle” Smyth to seal the victory for St. Ant. Chupko, who toed the rubber for St. Anthony, sustained a minor injury on an unintentional shot “through the box”, but bounced back to lead his team to victory. Offensive standouts for St. Ant included Smyth (3-3, 4RBI), captain Bobby Camisa, Carlos DaCosta, Erik “Nails” Hastrup, Mike Markowycz, Todd “Pappa” Feinberg, and Luis Fraguas who all collected multiple hits or RBIs. St. Sebastian was led by Mike McKenna, captain Wells Pikaart, Mike Abram, “Tiny Villegas, and John Greenblatt who all racked up multiple hits.
St. Ignatius 16
St. George 3
After scoring only seven runs in its first two games, St. Ignatius broke out the bats cruised to their first victory. St. Iggy racked up 25 hits in the game. Ara Movsesian, Bryan Stitt, and league veteran Larry “Jeans” Szenyi were perfect at the plate for St. Ignatius, with Movsesian and Stitt collecting multiple extra base hits. Captain Bob McGuinness, Paul Bifani, Ross Alpert, Josh Baik, and Robbie Stratton managed multiple hits for St. Iggy. St. George was led by captain Jeff Friedlander (3-3), Vru Baboomian (3-4, 2RBI), and John De Luca each with multi-hit games.
St. Joseph 19
St. Wolfgang 11
After scoring nine runs in the first inning, St. Wolfgang’s offense went cold, and St. Joseph cruised to a victory. St Joe took the lead for good with seven runs in the third inning on its way to racking up 24 hits for the game. Chris “real men don’t wear batting gloves” Millar, Dave “Guido” Merkel, James Devlin, Jerry Russo, Tom “Horse Whisperer” Swales, Gary Leichtling, Dan Brown, Tom Fozio, and Chris Paterek all managed multiple hits for St. Joes. Jimmy Barba, Nash Warfield, “Steady” Eddie DeFrancesco, and Pat MacDonnell all managed multiple hits for the Wolfies.
St. Joseph 10
St. George 9
St. George's effort to come back from down five runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 10-9 to St. Joseph. The Georgies scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by “Commish” Jim Killeen, a double by Rob Del Cid, and a single by Dan “Come Get Some!” Shneyder. In the end, St. George could not overcome 21 hits from the Joeys, including home runs from Chris “best outfielder?” Millar, and Dave Eckert. Walt Patrylo (4-4), Tom Fazio, Dave Merkel, Gary Leichtling, Karl Grossman, Eckert, and Millar each contributed with multiple hits for St. Joseph. Rob Zerafa, Shneyder, Sal Gano Jr., Killeen, Jeff Friedlander, Del Cid, and Lewis Blau all had multiple hits for St George.
