As the weather heated up this week, so did the potent Seabass offense, led by the ageless Wells Pikkart who went 4-4 for the defending champions in their defeat of the still winless Wolfpack. Edward DeFrancesco, Vincent Fumero and Coady Brown were bright spots for St. Wolfgang, collecting 2 hits each.
St. George 10
St. Vincent 5
A late rally by St. George at the always challenging Esposito Park sparked a victory over the St. Vincent squad. (Don’t call me) Francis Vecchione went 4-4 for St. George, while Captain Keith Karyczak also went 4-4 for Vincent in a losing cause.
St. Francis 7
St. Joseph 2
Southpaw Michael Kozlowski held the St. Joseph squad in check on Thursday night at Forest Road Park, despite a first inning home run by slugger Christopher Milar. Perennial All Star candidate Tony Perconte led St. Francis with 3 hits, while St. Barts legend Gus Alverez and Chris (Rock) Sarna homered for St. Francis, boosting their chances to play in the championship game on Labor Day.
St. Francis 8
St. Ignatius 7
In a nail biter played Friday night at Farley Park , St. Ignatius rallied to score 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, only to be denied by St Francis in extra innings, with a key hit by Bruce Logan to win the game for St Francis. Mike Cunningham blasted a homer in a losing effort by St Ignatius. The Francis squad was inspired by flawless play by Catcher Lance Abramowitz.
